Server Side Overview
K-Secure VPN™ Server is a rule based VPN system. Rules defined in the server control network connections
on client machines. To make rules easily manageable, groups are introduced. Each group contains
a number of rules as well as a number of users. Connections made by a user inside the group are regulated
by the rules defined in the group. For more details on these entities, see Groups,
Rules and Users.
In simple use cases, the Express Config Page is
sufficient for creating and deploying rules. For advanced uses, e.g. in small to medium size companies,
where complex relations among groups, users and rules must be defined, IT administrators can use the
corresponding pages and wizards to manipulate groups, users and rules.
When a client connects to the VPN server, it is assigned a Virtual IP. Such a Virtual IP
can be in any class and/or range; it is not regulated by any standard; it is however only meaningful
within the VPN. There are two ways to control the virtual IP assignment schemes: through the
IP Assignments page, or through the
Virtual Network Options.
K-Secure VPN™ Server is extensible. In case a network resource is not accessible to the VPN server, but
instead accessible to a VPN client, such a VPN client can be made a
Proxy Agent so it can make connections for all other VPN
clients. In this way the Proxy Agent becomes an extension to the VPN server.
